Getting Started

Working with me begins with a private initial consultation by telephone. During this initial call, we will discuss your needs, and what resources you can provide (such as time, people, budget, products, etc.) With an understanding of your needs, I will provide initial recommendations on how to proceed.

My Commitment to Learning and Holistic Organizing

To ensure I keep my skills and knowledge up-to-date and provide you with the best possible service, I continously participate in professional development opportunities provided to me as an active member of NAPO, the National Association of Professional Organizers. I adhere to the NAPO Code of Ethics.

I am also a member of the National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization where I have completed two certificates (ADD and Chronic Disorganization) and have earned the level 2 Specialist in Chronic Disorganization.  Currently, I am enrolled in a two-year certification program to become a Certified Professional Organizer in Chronic Disorganization. If you suspect you might have ADD and / or are chronically disorganized, you will be given the utmost respect and compassion.

I joined the American Holistic Health Association because I strongly believe in working with clients holistically to get to the source of organizational issues. When appropriate, I work in conjuction with Holistic Health Professionals if needed to help my clients whose organizational issues may be related to overall health and nutrition.

There have been many studies that indicate poor exercise, nutrution and diet habits, especially use of sugar and gluten, may worsen or even cause ADD, depression, autism-related disorders and more. In addition, many chronic illnesses and medications have side effects that result in difficulty organizing.

My intention is to never do any harm and to always be mindful that you get the best return on your investment in getting organized. If I don't feel I can help you, I will do my best to refer you appropriately.

My Neat & Simple Living Philosophy

People aften assume that Neat & Simple Living is about being a neat freak, super minimalist or being obsessed with being tidy. Well not to me. That is not my intention at all. Being neat does not equal being organized. Simple living does not have to mean austerity. And not only that, you can be messy and still be organized! So what do I mean by Neat & Simple Living?

Let's start by defining Neat

(I've combined definitions from Word Reference.com, Merriam-Webster and Dictionary.com.)

neat

    1. Free from dirt and disorder: habitually clean and orderly; free from clumsiness; precisely or deftly executed;
    2. Free from dilution: STRAIGHT
      free from irregularity: SMOOTH
    3. Marked by tasteful simplicity; refined; elegant
    4. Showing care in execution marked by skill or ingenuity: ADROIT, PRECISE, SYSTEMATIC
    5. NET as in (neat profit)
    6. Free from what is tawdry or unbecoming: FINE, ADMIRABLE

Neat & Simple Living: It's a Lifestyle Choice

In choosing the name Neat & Simple Living, I embraced ALL these definitions! Neat & Simple Living to me means living a lifestyle that strives to be:

  • Reasonably orderly
  • Marked by tastefulness, simplicity, and ingenuity
  • Peaceful
  • Owning things that add value to our lives - not stress - and let go fo the stuff that keeps us truly stuck
  • Living profitably by taking care of oneself, and using one's skills and talents to be of service to others
  • Demonstrating admirable qualities such as strong ethics and generous charity to those less fortunate

To me, it doesn't mean perfection, it means we our best "most of the time." It means we strive to be our best, knowing that we won't always achieve it. We are all human. Another aspect of the definition I like is "free from irregularity, SMOOTH". I think of Neat & Simple Living as a lifestyle that values SMOOTH as in peaceful and serene.

So how does organizing fit into this picture?

To me you can't truly experience the power of Neat & Simple Living if you are living with excessive clutter, always late or rushed, or painfully disorganized. You need to be organized enough to be in control of the things you own rather than letting them control you and cause you stress. Your things should serve you. You time should be your own. Neat & Simple Living is a quest to use skill, creativity and determination to:

  • Keep things simple
  • Being able to make time for what matters most
  • Acquire and keeping mostly only the things you really love and use
  • Being able to give things we own a home where we can find them quickly, most of the time.
