Organizing Products For Sorting Your Stuff

Of course, recycling and reusing empty boxes from things that get shipped to you and other bins / containers you have around the house is the best option. You could use shoe boxes, gift boxes and even large product packaging. Sometimes I even use paper shopping bags that stand up! You'll need at least 5-10 sorting containers for most projects. If you prefer to buy multi-purpose containers that you can re-use later, here are my favorites.

Staples Economy Storage Boxes, 10/Pack
(AKA Banker Boxes) Staples also has 4-packs in great colors for around $6.00 but you have to go into the store. You will see them near the packing supplies and plastic Storage Bins. When you no longer need them they are great for making donations!

Filing & Paper Organizing Products I Prefer

Desktop File Sorter, 8 Compartments, Chrome From Staples

Graduated step design keeps all projects visible. This is important because it's high enough to keep your folders from flopping over and, unlike some others, it has a steep incline so you can see all the folder titles. This one is also roomy enough to hold a lot of action and project folders. The only downside is that it isn't portable.

If you need portable file containers, I recommend using a solid, sturdy hanging file box. Hanging file holders should always have the sides completely closed or things will fall out.

WARNING
People using cheap plastic filing containers almost never maintain their file system.

Using a good quality file holder, with sturdy file rails and a design you really like the look and feel of, makes you 10 times more likely to maintain your files!

And of course you need easy-to-read labels, too. So use a black Sharpie and post-its or a P-touch to label the folders.

I love this product because it folds flat AND it has a place for a label. It's fairly sturdy and relatively inexpensive. It also comes in two sizes, 3.5 inch and 4.5 inch. I keep a couple on hand to use for magazines, projects and many other purposes!
