Neat & Simple Organizing Solutions Photo Gallery
Karen and Timmy's Playroom (not their real names : )

Karen (7) and Timmy (2) were sharing the playroom. However, being 2, naturally Timmy was always getting into Karen's stuff!
The solution was to create a space for each of them that was all their own.
BEFORE: As you can see in this photo of the right corner, their things are all together. This was really starting to create a problem as the baby was getting into Karen's things. Not only was this potentially unsafe, Karen's things could get broken, and the situation could cause tension between the kids.
AFTER: The right side near the entrance to the room is now reserved for Timmy's things. We also created a barrier to block off Karen's side of the room using a big kitchen set (see 4th photo down) that used to be against the wall. This gives Timmy his own safe zone to play in and creates a lot more wall storage space for organizing.

Each of Timmy's larger toys has its own parking spot on the shelves. A basket on the top shelf is used to contain all his smaller musical instruments. Another container was used to hold all of the video tapes.

BEFORE: Karen's Art Area

The issue with this space is that too many of the art supplies are being stored on the table itself, not leaving room to actually create art!

AFTER: Karen's Art & "Kitchen" Area

The art table was moved to the center of the room. The supplies were sorted, contained and moved to a cabinet behind and beside the table (you can see the supply cabinet in the 7th row of photos below). This also allowed more room for book storage (left set of shelves). The set of drawers was repurposed from being a catchall to being "Kitchen Central." The drawers hold all the kitchen supplies right next to the actual Play Kitchen which is now acting as a room divider. The table is clear all the time and can easily be moved when more floor space is needed.

The old non-adjustable shelf was moved to become a desk for Karen to do stamping and homework. New adjustable shelving was added to store games and coloring books that require supervision to use.

It was hard to find anything here.

AFTER: Art Supply Cabinet & Stamping / Homework table

Karen's art and craft supplies are all now neatly stored away. Crafts requiring supervision on the upper shelves, and things she can use on her own are on the lower shelves in baskets so that she can easily take things out and put them away when she's done. Note that we repurposed several product packaging containers such as baby wipes holders to hold supplies!

To the left you can see how we repurposed the single immovable shelf from the upper back wall to become a small desk for Karen to do her stamping and homework.
